Greene County residents demonstrated their commitment to investing in their own community and their own futures by forming the Community Foundation of Greene County in 2000. The Community Foundation was initially supported by seed grants from R. K. Mellon Foundation, Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, and a third foundation that wished to remain anonymous.
The foundation has become the focal point within the county for mobilizing and assisting individual donors, nonprofit groups and organizations to create funds that support today's needs and that promote long-term investment in the County. The Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable corporation.
The Foundation is the central philanthropic vehicle in the county for donations of various types and sizes. It builds “community capital” by professionally managing permanent endowment funds and integrating them with effective grant-making programs designed to meet the current and emerging needs of the community in areas such as arts and culture, economic development, education, the environment, health, human services, recreation, and religion. Through careful investing, the impact of gifts received is multiplied, and resources are extended to help future generations.
Through grant support of qualified nonprofit organizations, the Foundation maintains and enhances the educational, social, cultural, health and civic resources of the community.
The Foundation also serves as a leading catalyst and neutral convener to meet a wide range of community needs in Greene County.
