What is the Partners in Philanthropy Program?
The Partners in Philanthropy Program of the Community Foundation of Greene County was established in 2002 to recognize other nonprofit organizations that join efforts with the Community Foundation to make a difference in our area. These organizations share the Foundation’s objective of promoting philanthropy in Greene County. Organizations become a Partner in Philanthropy by establishing a permanent endowed fund at the Community Foundation or by transferring an existing trust or endowment to be managed by the Foundation.

The Foundation’s Partners in Philanthropy Program is gaining momentum. More area non-profit leaders are beginning to realize that with the Community Foundation holding and managing their organization’s endowments, their organizations will have greater financial stability and a constant source of funding to meet the needs of the populations they serve.

“Community foundations provide an excellent opportunity for non profit organizations such as Community Action Southwest to establish sustainable, long-term sources of support,” said Darlene Bigler, Executive Director, Community Action Southwest, the newest member of the Partners in Philanthropy Program.

An increasing number of individuals are also investing in the community by utilizing the professional management resources of the Foundation to ensure perpetual support of their favorite charities. They are pleased to find that by establishing designated permanent endowment funds they can receive maximum tax advantages.

By pooling funds from many investors, the Foundation has the potential to command higher interest rates and lower management fees. Cash is the simplest type of contribution a donor can make. They may also take advantage of the Foundation’s ability to accept gifts of stock, real estate and personal property, bequests and planned gifts. Gifts of highly appreciated stock have remarkable tax advantages.
