Army Specialist Gregory A. Cox Memorial Scholarship Fund
Scholarship Guidelines
The Community Foundation of Greene County will award one $1,000.00 scholarship from the Army Spc. Gregory A. Cox Memorial Scholarship Fund for a student planning to attend a two- or four-year postsecondary institution and participating in ROTC or majoring in field of study leading to a career in public safety (such as police, fire, emergency medical personnel, etc.) and/or public service (such as education, health related, emergency management, etc.). The scholarship will be awarded during the scholarship recipient’s school awards ceremony. The scholarship may be used for tuition, room & board, fees and/or books.
The Army Spc. Gregory Cox Memorial Scholarship was established by the family of Gregory A. Cox as a tribute to their beloved son and brother and as a means to help students who reside in Greene County and who plan to enter the Reserve Officer Training Corp (ROTC) or enter a career in public safety or public service (not including political service) to fund their college education. Army Spc. Gregory A. Cox was a lifelong resident of Carmichaels, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of All Saints School in Masontown, Pennsylvania and Geibel Catholic High School in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. On September 27, 2004, while serving on active duty in “Operation Iraqi Freedom,” Army Spc. Cox was killed in an Humvee accident. Gregory Cox was twenty-one years old at the time of his death.

In order to apply, applicants must:
Application Process:
● Complete the Army Spc. Gregory A. Cox Memorial Scholarship Application Form (see attached or download copy at http://www.cfgcpa.org under Endowed Scholarships).
● Submit a one-page, typed essay explaining why the applicant plans to enter ROTC and/or public safety/public service career.
● Secure three (3) letters of recommendation including 2 letters from high school professional staff, and 1 letter from a person who is not a member of the high school professional staff and not related to the applicant (such as coach, employer, pastor, etc.)
Attachments and Submission Instructions:
The applicant should also enclose each of the following attachments:
● A completed CFGC Common Scholarship Application Cover Form (see attached or download copy at http://www.cfgcpa.org/PDF/common.pdf)
● An official copy of the student’s high school transcripts
● A copy of their completed FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) Acknowledgement Form, including the Estimated Family Contribution amount
● Copy(ies) of post-secondary acceptance letter(s) and scholarship awards.
