The Community Foundation of Greene County announces the following priorities for 2008 Discretionary Grants. All interested applicants should review CFGC’s general Grantmaking Guidelines in addition to the guidelines for specific grants.

Discretionary Grants –
Proposals for grants will be accepted in the following categories:

1. Arts, Culture & Humanities – projects that encourage and demonstrate artistic creativity and appreciation and enjoyment of the arts and culture, including visual and performing arts, museums, arts education, and public media.

2. Education – projects to enhance the education experience for persons of any age; that encourage literacy; and promote lifelong learning skills.

3. Environment & Animal Welfare – projects to enhance the quality of life, to ensure biodiversity, to mitigate or investigate the impacts of pollution on the local region. Includes conservation, resource protection, energy/renewal resources, agricultural projects and animal welfare.

4. Health & Fitness – projects that define and address issues of local concern that are not addressed through state or federal tax-supported institutions.

5. Human Needs – projects whose objects or purposes are to give aid, comfort, support or assistance to children, aged persons or indigent adults, or urban affairs

6. Public and Societal Benefit – projects that promote community and economic development and/or community involvement

7. Religious / Faith Based – projects that promote interdenominational sharing and understanding and that emphasize the importance of spiritual growth and development.

 

Discretionary Grant Guidelines
The Community Foundation of Greene County announces the availability of grants through the discretionary grant making process in 2008.

Purpose: The purpose of the grant is to provide support for programs and organizations in Greene County.

Project Period: October 1, 2008 – September 30, 2009

Award Amount: Grant awards will range from $2,000 to $5,000. The Foundation may award more than one grant.

Eligible Applicants: Eligible applicants must be nonprofit, charitable (recognized under Section 501[c][3] of the Internal Revenue Code), tax-exempt organizations whose purposes and programs benefit Greene County residents.

Application Procedures: Applicants use the Common Grant Application Cover Sheet and Budget Format.
The project proposal shall include:
1) Cover Letter
2) Proposal Cover Sheet
3) Project Narrative (see details below)
4) Common Grant Application Budget Format(Program/Project Budget)
5) Attachments
a. IRS Determination Letter
b. Most recent Form 990
c. List of officers and directors, including occupations, employment, or other relevant
affiliations
d. List of key staff members and job descriptions of key personnel involved in the project
e. Audited financial statements
f. Most recent annual report

Project Narrative: Project Narrative shall not exceed three type-written pages, single-sided with 1-inch margins and font size of 11pt or larger. The Project Narrative outline should include the following elements. See the Common Grant Application Format Outline for more detail about the Project Narrative.
1) Organizational Information (mission, history, current programs and activities, and significant accomplishments)
2) Purpose of the Grant (problem and need, project goal, project design & objectives, and sustainability)
3) Evaluation process (outcomes and measurement)

Proposal Deadline: All grant applications must be postmarked Friday, August 15, 2008. Electronic and facsimile submissions will not be accepted.

Application Package: Applicants should submit 5 copies of the Proposal Cover Sheet, Project Narrative and Budget along with 1 copy of the required attachments to:

Grant award announcement: Grant awards will be announced after September 19, 2008.

Grant awards will range from $2,000 to $5,000. The Foundation may award more than one grant.
