Paying for higher education is a struggle for many students, especially non-traditional students. An anonymous donor in Greene County saw the need in the community to encourage and support non-traditional students returning to school and established the Stealth Scholarship through the Community Foundation of Greene County (CFGC) in 2014.
The Stealth Scholarship is available for non-traditional students over 22 years of age with a high school diploma or GED, living or working in Greene County and planning to pursue a post secondary course of education (two-year or four-year degree) at an accredited college, university, community college or trade/technical school.
Applications are accepted throughout the year, but the deadline for the spring 2016 semester is October 23rd.
“Support is very important, especially for young people or single parents that are working and furthering their education. There’s so much they need to do and they don’t always have a support system in place,” explained the anonymous donor.
Alison Greathouse was awarded the Stealth Scholarship in the fall of 2014. As a mother of two young girls, the scholarship allowed her to focus on her studies and her family, rather than working to make ends meet while she attended Western Area Career and Technology Center to pursue her dream of becoming an LPN. “Being awarded a scholarship boosts your confidence and it shows you that someone believes in you,” stated Greathouse.
